Scholarship Policy

Policy Overview

The objective of this policy document is to provide students with the framework for qualifying and applying for scholarship at Nubian American Advanced College. The College offers four types of scholarships: (a) Board of Trustees (b) President’s (c) Departments, and (d) Need-Based Scholarships. The Scholarship awards are based on merit, and Need-based where applicable. Student can only qualify for one type of scholarship at a time. Measures for qualifying for Merit-based Scholarship are student leadership, service, and academics. Need-based scholarships are awarded only to qualified students based on their financial needs.

The total amount of all scholarship per academic year is based on funding allotted for each program and number of qualified applicants. The application process is simple. To be considered for scholarships, new students must check the scholarship box on the online admission application form. Returning students or those whose scholarship was discontinued must reapply directly to the Admission Office before the deadline. The scholarships are awarded for a maximum of two semesters; and recipients must be enrolled for full-time classes (minimum 18 credit hours per semester).


Application Deadline

The following deadlines have been established for the submission of scholarship applications:

·         The DEADLINE for scholarship application is the last day of General Registration for each semester. If the registration process is extended, the scholarship application deadline shall not be extended. (see academic calendar for deadline)


Board of Trustees Scholarship

Recipients of the Board of Trustees Scholarship must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.81 - 4.0. If the GPA drops below 3.81 at the end of the semester in any academic year, the scholarship will not be renewed, and the student must reapply. Subsequent awards are not automatic, the award may be reinstated at a level that the student qualifies following review and approval of the scholarship application.

The Board of Trustees Scholarship covers 50% of tuition and all fees. To check your eligibility for this scholarship, please contact the Admission Office.

 

President’s Scholarship

Recipients of the President’s Scholarship must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.51 - 3.8. If the GPA drops below 3.51 at the end of the semester in any academic year, the scholarship will not be renewed, and the student must reapply. Subsequent awards are not automatic, the award may be reinstated at a level that the student qualifies following review and approval of the scholarship application.

The President’s Scholarship covers 30% of tuition and regular fees only (excluding Other Fees, see tuition & fee schedule). To check your eligibility for this scholarship, please contact the Admission Office.

 

Department Scholarship

Recipients of the Academic Department Scholarship must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 - 3.5. If the GPA drops below 3.0 at the end of the semester in any academic year, the scholarship will not be renewed, and the student must reapply. Subsequent awards are not automatic, the award may be reinstated at a level that the student qualifies following review and approval of the scholarship application.

The Department Scholarship covers 15% of tuition and regular fees only (excluding Other Fees, see tuition & fee schedule). To check your eligibility for this scholarship, please contact the Admission Office.


Need-based Scholarship

The College’s need-based scholarships are awarded based on a student’s ability to pay for college. The process may require submission of certain financial documents of the student and his/her parents. Recipients of the Need-based Scholarship must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 - 3.0. If the GPA drops below 2.5 at the end of the semester in any academic year, the scholarship will not be renewed, and the student must reapply. Subsequent awards are not automatic; the award may be reinstated at a level that the student qualifies following review and approval of the scholarship application.

 

The Need-based Scholarship covers 15% of tuition and all fees (excluding Other Fees, see tuition & fee schedule). To check your eligibility for this scholarship, please contact the Admission Office.

 

Program Exclusions

All Scholarships are designed to encourage academic excellence amongst students enrolled at the College. The programs are available to incoming (new) entrants after completing the process; and returning (existing) students who have completed at least one semester at the college. These Scholarship programs do not cover Admission Application Fees, and Room and Board.
